Every employee is very different in their own respect here at Petro Guardian. However, two things remain consistent, they all enjoy what they do, and they take great pride in their work. So much so, that I would describe Don Barcelona’s work ethic as an art form. Don is the senior account manager for Petro Guardian who takes the organization’s values to heart and is extremely approachable in the office when he is not traveling out to Midland for the company.
I sat down and had a light-hearted discussion with Don about his professional experience and personal quirks. I found out a lot about Don… including that he is an alum of Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond where he studied abroad in Costa Rica!
What made you want to work for Petro Guardian?
I had just recently moved to Lacombe and came across the career at Petro Guardian on one of the job promotion websites. When I started looking into it, I had extensive construction experience over the years and construction sales experience. Once I learned about Petro Guardian and what they did, I thought that my background in construction, coupled with my construction sales experience, would make a great fit!
When you aren’t working, what do you enjoy doing in your free time?
I like fishing and hunting. I also work out during the week, daily… whether it be weight lifting, cardio, or the stair stepper. Occasionally I’ll play tennis! I live on the water in Lacombe, so I am always doing stuff on the boat or around the house to stay productive. I also love going snow skiing and spending time with my family.
What motivates you?
I’ve always been self-motivated. No one here is going to hold your hand and tell you what to do. If you want to be successful, you have to be self-motivated. I’ve always wanted to have a successful life, so I know what’s required of that, and that’s what I’ll do.
Your favorite food or snack?
I enjoy cooking steaks on my green egg. I’m also pretty well-known for my cheesecakes.
Tell me about a proud moment while working at Petro Guardian.
That would probably be when I got promoted to senior account manager. I remember at the time being under a pretty good amount of pressure and asking myself, “Can I handle it?” or “Can I do it?” and once I realized that I could do it well… that was a pretty good moment. I was showing Petro Guardian that I was capable of what they wanted me to do and that I could do the job successfully.
What do you want people to know about Petro Guardian?
We really care about our work, we take pride in what we do, and we try to do it correctly. Everybody in the office and out in the field takes pride in their work, and they want to do a good job.
What is your favorite part about working at Petro Guardian?
What we do, in general, is interesting to me. I enjoy interacting with the people that are in this building. Satisfying customers is a very rewarding experience. I like seeing that because of what we do, we can make a difference in the number of incidents and help solve a problem in the industry.
Tell us something most people don’t know about you.
I’m a pretty open book, so I don’t know if I have anything that people that know me don’t know about me.
What’s your favorite band?
Oh, that’s a tough one. I enjoy different types of music, but my favorite band is Journey.
Tell me two truths and a lie.
I’ve had two shoulder surgeries…one in each arm! I’ve been skydiving. I went to the 1997 Super Bowl in the New Orleans Superdome. It was the Green Bay Packers versus the New England Patriots. (Don has never been skydiving)
